To honor facilities management professionals and the industry, Global FM1 has designated June 4 as “World FM Day.” The day recognizes these professionals for all they do to ensure the productivity, health and well-being, and overall safety of those who work in facilities around the world.

This year’s theme focuses on “Connected FM, Connected World – Global Knowledge Sharing” to bring to light how facility managers connect with key stakeholders in their organizations. It also focuses on bringing insight to how to grow the profile of the industry around the globe.

Today’s facilities managers face numerous challenges as businesses have an increasing focus on reducing waste, meeting sustainability goals and garnering operational efficiencies. Buildings consume approximately 40 percent of the world’s energy,2 much of which is inefficiently or even completely wasted.

By leveraging advanced facilities management software, such as integrated workplace management systems (IWMS), organizations can deliver significant time, cost and energy savings that align with organizational goals to reduce waste and become more efficient.

Traditionally, FM has been seen as a cost center – after all, managing the facilities and real estate life cycle tends to represent the second largest expense item for most organizations.2 However, when armed with the right tools and information, facility managers can – and do – play a more strategic role in their organizations.

Celebrate World FM Day and show others what you’re doing by posting messages, photos and videos on the World FM Day Facebook page. You can also join a global FM conversation by tweeting and searching #WorldFMDay on Twitter.
