The University of Houston Selects Accruent’s FAMIS Solution
September 15, 2010
Accruent, the leading provider of Enterprise Facility Management solutions, announced that the University of Houston has selected its FAMIS solution to help the university manage its space and facility needs, which are important components toward advancing the institution’s goal of becoming a Tier One university.
Founded in 1927, the University of Houston is the leading public research university in the vibrant world-class city of Houston. In the past year, under the leadership of President Renu Khator, the University submitted plans to the state of Texas to become a Tier One university. Tier One status will allow the University of Houston to enhance the quality of student education, attract and retain more high-quality faculty, use state appropriations as leverage for greater federal research support, increase technology transfer to the private sector, attract new companies and industries to the Houston area and produce spin-off companies.
Achieving this status requires that the University has robust space management, indirect cost recovery and reporting capabilities. “The University of Houston has invested heavily in our mission to be a Tier One university, and Accruent’s FAMIS solution has the critical capabilities that we need to allocate research space and apply for greater federal research support,” said Lillian Wanjagi, University of Houston’s Director of Facilities Information. “After conducting an extensive evaluation, we concluded that Accruent’s fully integrated solution for space and maintenance management was the right choice for us.”
Ms. Wanjagi continued, “We wanted to partner with a company that has proven success in higher education implementations, and Accruent’s track record of more than 100 successful university implementations, strong financial backing, and a market leading analyst rating gave us confidence in the solution.”
As the leading facilities management solution for the higher education market, Accruent’s FAMIS system is designed to meet the unique challenges of campus plant and facilities directors. FAMIS is at work at more than 100 public and private institutions, including many of the largest and most diverse campuses in North America, helping directors serve their academic and student populations while controlling expenses and maximizing indirect cost recovery.
“Visibility of detailed Space and Facility Management information is a critical component to leading universities’ ability to secure research funding,” said Mark Friedman, Accruent’s chief executive officer. “Accruent’s integrated approach to facility management will help the University of Houston to achieve their goals, enabling them to attract the best students and faculty and further contribute to the economic vitality of the city of Houston.”
