UConn Health is a healthcare system and hospital that is a branch of the University of Connecticut. It oversees clinical care, advanced biomedical research, and academic education in medicine. The organization is a longtime FAMIS 360 customer – they have utilized FAMIS 360 for 8 years and were a FAMIS Classic customer for 6 years before migrating to the cloud.
The entire campus currently utilizes FAMIS 360, as well as regional locations and satellite offices. The CMMS has been crucial in optimizing operations for the organization. “There’s been dramatic improvement [since we got FAMIS],” explains Systems Manager Andrew Leete. “We were paper driven for a long time. The work order would be generated. We would print it out, put them in a centrally located set of mailboxes [...] one technician would go down to the office, grab one piece of paper, go out and work on whatever the repair was, write down the amount of time that he spent on it, make some notes, and then he’d bring that one piece of paper back and take the next [one]. You can see that that was not exactly effective... it was painful. And there were many times when that piece of paper would go out and not come back.”
That’s all changed with FAMIS 360. “That’s the powerful side of FAMIS 360,” Leete notes. “Every single asset that we own that has any value at all is in FAMIS, and we have prescribed PM schedules in there." Beyond that, the mobile app and the analytics capabilities have been especially helpful for UConn Health. Analytics, in particular, has changed the way that UConn Health gathers reports and data, allowing for a quick and user-friendly path to insights.
Moving forward, the organization hopes to integrate FAMIS 360 with Accruent’s Observe IoT and remote monitoring solution to help with their refrigeration needs and monitoring air control concerns – including air temperature and air pressure – all of which are currently monitored using disparate systems. This would be a huge win for the organization’s pharmacy, where refrigerated medications like vaccines must be maintained within strict temperature ranges, as mandated by the FDA.
